Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the casting process take?
Taking a casting of your baby or family member is relatively quick. The whole process takes about 30 minutes to cast 2 feet, from set up to clean up afterward. But the casting itself is only a matter of minutes. For more information on the full process, please see our casting information and process page.

Are the materials used to cast safe for my baby?
Yes, the casting liquid is safe for babies and children and it captures every intricate and unique detail of their hands and feet.

Is it a messy process?
The process is relatively mess free. We bring with us everything needed to keep your home clean and tidy and always leave your home as clean and tidy as when we arrive. We do advise that you and your baby do not wear your best clothes just in case an accident happens. Although our products are washable we feel it best to be safe than sorry when it comes to favourite clothes. Please note that we do not take any responsibility for soiled clothing. Babies having their feet cast should have bare feet and legs, same for hands and arms if doing hand casts. Aprons and covering are proved, however, we do recommend that whoever is holding the little one during the process has their sleeves rolled up or a short-sleeved top on.
Does it hurt?
The process is quick and completely pain free.

Is engraving included in the cost?
No, engraving is an extra charge of £140 for 2 feet or hands to be engraved with baby's name, date of birth or age at the time of casting.
Can I pick the font or use my own handwriting?
Yes, you can see our engraving styles on our engraving page. Our master engravers do all engravings by hand and can match to your handwriting if you so wish.

How far do you travel?
We cover the whole of London on a regular basis and cover areas in South UK on occasion and now offer our services in Bath and Bristol on select weeks. Please get in touch to see if and when we cover your area.

Do you charge to travel to my home?
If you are based within central London there is no charge for us to come to your home, if you are based outside of central London we ask that reasonable travel expenses be covered by the client, please contact us to discuss.

What if I live outside of the areas you cover?
We often work with clients who live outside of our service area. One option is you can travel to our studio in south London or we can in some cases work with you remotely. We have worked with clients as far away as America in the past. Extra shipping charges will apply. Please get in touch for more details.

Is there a charge if I do not place an order?
Please note that if no order is made at the time of casting a casting fee of £100 per pair of hands or feet or holding hands will be charged to cover our time and casting materials. This charge will be taken off the total of your order when it is placed.

How long will it take to see the finished product?
Bronze casts will be ready approximately 20-25 working weeks after confirmation and payment of your order. If you have a deadline, please let us know as soon as possible and we will try our hardest to meet it. Please be aware that engraving and plating may take an extra 2-3 working weeks. See our lead times page for more information.

Do you only cast babies?
We do castings for all family members of any age. We often get requests for wedding and anniversary holding hand casts. We also cast dog paws upon request.

How old must my baby be to do the casting?
We can take castings at any age. If you are thinking about getting your baby's hands or feet cast, we recommend doing it as soon as possible. Not only do you capture those tiny creases and folds perfectly at the tiniest they will ever be, but as they get older the process can get trickier to do. Toddlers are generally less comfortable about having to sit still for a few minutes than new borns. But it is all possible.

Must my baby be sleeping to take the cast? Is it a problem if they are sleeping when you arrive?
Although it can make for a much quicker process if your little one is asleep or even feeding during the cast, it is not essential. Being mothers ourselves we understand predicting either of these things can be tricky. We will always arrange a casting at the best time for you and your little one. Should they be sleeping this is not a problem.

Where do castings take place?
We are happy to come to you in your home or welcome you to our studio in south London.

Do you need anything from my home to do the casting?
We just need a space ideally with no carpets. Kitchens tend to work best. We need access to electricity and warm water.

Do you do casting parties? Can my friends or family join to have their babies cast at the same time?
Yes, we offer casting parties offering castings to wider groups, whether it be your NCT group or extended family. We just need to know the numbers in advance, so we have enough materials on hand.

What if I have to cancel or change the appointment?
No problem, we understand the juggling that goes on with having a baby in your life and understand things sometimes need to change. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice to change or cancel an appointment.

What if I change my mind about wanting a casting done?
If you have already had the first part of the casting process done but not placed an order, then you can cancel the rest of the order. We charge £100 for the initial casting process service, where we take a copy of your baby's hands or feet. This £100 will be deducted from the final bill should you decide to go ahead with the order. Once the order has been placed and payment recieved you will be unable to cancel. Our services are fully bespoke to you, so once we have started the process of making your cast for you, we can not accept exchanges, refunds or cancellations. See our Returns and cancellation page for full details.

How will my casting be delivered?
We post our orders via Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery so that each parcel is fully tracked and insured. We charge £35 for hand delivery and £30 for signed delivery. You are also very welcome to collect your casting from our studio in south London. Shipping internationally is possible at an extra charge. Please get in touch for more details.

How do I look after my finished casting?
Each different cast material requires a slightly different aftercare to preserve the life of your cast. Please see our cast care page for full details.
